The Journey Itself Is the Destination
The mornings in Nara are usually quiet. This morning, unusually, began with heavy rain and rolling thunder.
Another rainy day — and I had finally planned to go out today...
Then I caught myself: what am I rushing for?
Compared to the past, our means of travel have advanced so much.
We can reach our destinations faster than ever —
yet somehow, the journey has grown hurried, and hollow.
The journey itself is one of the great pleasures of travel.
No — the journey is travel.
Sometimes, instead of the bullet train,
take the local train, or the overnight sleeper,
and enjoy this journey we call life.
